One of my favorite pastimes is watching documentaries on YouTube. Although you may be clicking through several  10 minute videos, there are some good movies on YouTube.

My 2013 Vision Board

Luckily for us, someone posted Icet-T’s rap documentary, Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap. In the movie, Dr. Dre drops a gem that made me re-evaluate my entire life.

He reveals that in his 27 year career, he’s never been out of the studio for more than 2 weeks. Ever. That’s dedication. Looking at all that he has accomplished, I am not surprised by this. How many of us can say that about our careers?

Hearing that and thinking about my own career made me feel unsettled. I took  a long hard look at myself. Am I really devoted to my craft? Am I really consistently working to get better at what I do? Am I doing enough?

Short Answer? No. Better answer: I’m getting there. Hearing Dr. Dre say that turned on a light bulb for me.  The time is now. I was told that this year was going to be a breakthrough year for me. We all hope that’s the case at the beginning of each year. We all need to work like it’s our time. You never know when your time is up.

I’m happy to say that I’m working on myself. I’ve spent the past few Sundays in Starbucks writing. Not ordering a Grande Pumpkin Spice latte like I want to, but simply writing. I’ve also completed my vision board for the year. I’m anxious to see what new opportunities are headed my way.

I’m taking small steps to a big goal. Are you?
Carpe Diem!

XOXO,
Veronica
