I’m going to make a bold declaration and say black people are homophobic.
Certainly not all but some. One of my friends texted me today & told me that she was going to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. I told her that right now I’m not supporting them and the reasons why. She replied quite simply that she didn’t care about gay people.
I let out an exasperated sigh. I wasn’t surprised at her response. She’s not exactly into politics and equality. But the sigh was from having another exchange with a black person who believes that the rights of gay person aren’t the same as theirs. It’s nauseating. How can we as African-Americans believe that a group of people shouldn’t have the same rights as someone else given our past?
People are definitely entitled to their own opinions and beliefs but when people start donating money to organizations that are for limiting the rights of people, I can’t get down with that. Chick-Fil-A and its operators have given millions of dollars to organizations who work to defeat same-sex marriage and the controversial therapy that is intended to reverse a person’s sexual orientation. I don’t understand why we can’t just let people live their own lives. How what a person does does in their bedroom affect anyone else?
I was especially sent over the edge when I saw the photo of the black church that supported the Chick-Fil-A appreciation day. Did y’all really storm Chick-Fil-A to support an event created by Mike Huckabee?? I’m willing to believe that most of those people have no idea who Mike Huckabee is or the type of Republican ideas that he supports.
Wake up black people.
Wake the fuck up.
