The shows that I am most obsessed with right now are Basketball Wives and Love and Hip Hop. Both of the shows showcase women who are trying to rebuild their lives either with a man or re-emerging from a relationship.
In Basketball Wives, the women were all connected with a basketball player and either was engaged, had a kid or messed with a player somehow. Love and Hip Hop follows a struggling female rapper, a rapper’s baby mama, a singer and a rapper’s girlfriend. Either way, the premise follows women and their lives with their men.
Either way, the lives of these women are defined by their men.
I can’t stand stuff like that.
I love to see an independent woman that is out there grinding, hustling! I think I just have an issue with women that need a man to define them. Have a life of your own! How can you claim to be an independent woman but you need your man to give you money? And you need his permission to conduct your business?
I’m not knocking anyone’s hustle but let’s keep it real.
When you put yourself in a situation where you’re not taking care of your own business, you’re bound to get played.
Then you have to rebuild your life from scratch. Ask Mashonda. She’s also featured on Love and Hip Hop. We’ve all heard the story on that one. But she wasn’t prepared for what happened in her life. Even though I’m not her biggest fan (I’m an Alicia Key Stan to the fullest), it’s good to see a woman get UP & rebuild her life.
You have to have your own hustle! Period. We’ve all seen Waiting to Exhale, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Why Did I Get Married? Have we not learned anything?
Are you a 21st Century Girl? Or will you find yourself rebuilding your life like certain women?
