By now, everyone (or at least everyone that reads this blog) knows who Nicki Minaj is. She is really the only female rapper that’s appears to be out here grinding. This is not a diss to my homegirls Shawna, Trina or anyone else but Nicki is making moves! She went from releasing her third mixtape just last April to appearing on songs with Usher, Mariah and it seems like every other song on the radio too.
But of course, with exposure comes negativity. Every website I visit (I happen to frequent a few of those) has a post about her and underneath the posts are always just the most hatful comments I have seen in a long time. Some of them say things like: “She’s trying to be like Lil Kim”, “She can’t rap”,” What grown woman wants to be a Barbie” and the hate continues.
The most common complaint that I hear is that she is not real. She don’t dress and look the way she used to. She didn’t used to rap like that. Newsflash- I don’t dress or look like I used to when I was 17. And can I say thank God for that?! Man, please. Let me really start popping tags and half of y’all wouldn’t even recognize me anymore. I’m just keeping it 100.
Now I understand if you just aren’t a fan. Hey, people don’t understand why I’m not a Beyonce fan. *RonniHill shrug*
But people are ridiculous with the hating on this young, black woman!
The postings I see on these sites are terrible. But how can you knock her hustle? She’s doing what every smart businessperson does. What Kimora, Russell and Diddy have done for years- she’s building a brand. I’m sure pretty soon, more and more people will know who she is, (if they don’t know already) and she’ll really be doing big things. In the words of Ms. Minaj, “You see a bad bitch getting shine, you should love it. Cause every time a door opens for me that means you just got a better opportunity to do you!”
I feel you girl. Mogs just can’t give credit where credit is due. Smh. I’m copping the album.
If she ain’t your cup of tea, that’s fine.
But let her get her shine on!
